By now, many of you have heard the sad news of the passing of Johnny Mac McElree, the Founder and Principal Broker of Hawaii Luxury Listings, LLC, and longtime West Hawaii Association of REALTORS member. Johnny moved to the Big Island of Hawaii in 2004, following the sale of his extremely successful asphalt milling business in California. After a couple of years living the aloha lifestyle and paddling up and down the coast of the Hawaii and the neighbor islands with the Waikoloa Canoe Club, Johnny saw an opportunity to help other people live their dreams in Hawaii through real estate. Upon receiving his license, he went to work at Century 21 All Islands. In 2011, Johnny founded his own brokerage, Hawaii Luxury Listings, LLC.
Over the next 13 years, Johnny was well-known in the Big Island real estate community for his honesty, integrity and unparalleled work ethic. He surrounded himself with a small group of realtors that worked for him that shared these values. Johnny was a Director for the West Hawaii Association of REALTORS in both 2013 and 2014. He received numerous accolades, including being named one of Hawaii Business Magazines Top 100 Realtors in Hawaii for multiple years, and the WHAR award for Outstanding Creative Advertising. Johnny was also a member of the exclusive Who’s Who in Luxury Real Estate.
Something that Johnny was very proud of is the fact that he is the all-time leader in sales for the Waikoloa Beach Resort area, the place that he called home. At the Waikoloa Beach Resort, Johnny was known as “The Mayor”, and fellow realtors, locals and visitors enjoyed running into him in his golf cart, cruising the streets making deals and showing property- he always had a smile and shaka for all of his friends. His loss will leave a hole in our community and hearts, but we are grateful to have known him.
A paddle out will be held by Johnny’s family at Anaeho’omalu Bay (the A Bay in Waikoloa Beach Resort) at a later date. We will keep you informed of details as they come.

After earning a bachelor’s degree, Johnny set out to exceed his own expectations and followed it up with a master’s. This laid the groundwork for his entrepreneurial spirit and drive. While founding and operating one of the largest family-owned asphalt milling companies in California was an accomplishment to be sure, Johnny’s dream still drove him. So, relying on his savvy business skills, he sold the company and achieved the dream of a lifetime – living under palm trees. And Johnny’s never looked back since.
