Big Island Strong: Coming Together After Hurricane Lala

When a powerful storm passes through Hawaiʻi, it reveals something deeply rooted in island life — the strength of our communities and the meaning of aloha.

Hawaiʻi Island ʻohana coming together after Hurricane Lala

When a powerful storm passes through Hawaiʻi, it leaves behind more than fallen trees, debris and damaged roads. It also reveals something deeply rooted in island life — the strength of our communities and the meaning of aloha.

In the wake of Hurricane Lala, cleanup and recovery efforts are underway across Hawaiʻi Island. Crews, first responders, utility workers, volunteers, businesses and residents are working together to clear debris, restore services and help affected communities get back on their feet.

A Community Effort

For those of us fortunate enough to call the Big Island home, seeing people come together after a storm is no surprise.

Neighbors check on neighbors. People bring food, tools and supplies. Crews work long hours to reopen roads and restore utilities. Volunteers step forward wherever another pair of hands is needed.

It is aloha in its most meaningful form — not simply something we say, but something we do.

Mahalo to Those Doing the Work

We extend a heartfelt mahalo to our first responders, road crews, utility workers, emergency personnel, community organizations and volunteers who have been working tirelessly throughout the recovery.

Many of these individuals were dealing with storm impacts at their own homes while simultaneously helping the rest of the island recover. Their dedication deserves our gratitude.

Supporting Our Island

Cleanup does not happen overnight, and some communities will need more time and assistance than others. As recovery continues, this is an important time to support local businesses, check on friends and neighbors, lend a hand when possible and remain patient with crews working throughout the island.

Even small acts can make a difference.

Hawaiʻi Island is an extraordinary place to live not simply because of its beaches, mountains, sunsets and incredible natural beauty. What truly makes the Big Island special is its people. When something happens here, we come together.

Big Island Strong

Storms eventually pass. Roads reopen. Trees grow back. Homes and communities are repaired. And through it all, the spirit of Hawaiʻi remains.

To everyone helping with the cleanup and recovery from Hurricane Lala — mahalo for taking care of our island and one another. We love where we live, and we are proud to be part of this remarkable Big Island community.

Big Island Strong. Hawaiʻi Strong. Aloha Always. 🌺🌴
